The SEBI SMART (Securities Market Trainer) Investors Program is an initiative by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) aimed at enhancing financial literacy among investors. Recognising the need for smart investments, the Finance Club - Aarjitha organized a special session by inviting Ms. Padmavathi Selvam the trainer from SEBI SMART, on 18th December 2024 to equip the students with the essential knowledge on various financial instruments, market dynamics and to deliberate on the importance of regulatory frameworks while making smart investments.
The trainer introduced a range of investment options, including equities, mutual funds, bonds, and derivatives, along with their associated risks and returns. She also explained the key concepts such as asset allocation, diversification, and the power of compounding, which are critical for making informed investment decisions. A major focus of the program was on the role of SEBI in regulating the securities market and protecting the investors. The trainer highlighted on various initiatives by SEBI that are aimed at promoting transparency and fairness in the marketand the importance of understanding the rights and responsibilities of the investors.
Interactive discussions allowed students to ask questions and clarify doubts, fostering an engaging learning environment. Real-life case studies were presented to illustrate common pitfalls and best practices in investing, making the concepts more relatable and easier to grasp. This program also emphasized the importance of ethical investing and the impact of behavioural finance on investment decisions. The Investor Awareness Program enhanced the financial acumen of the students and instilled a sense of responsibility towards smart investments. At the end of the session, participants expressed a newfound confidence in their ability to navigate the complexities of the financial markets, armed with knowledge and insights from a trusted authority.
